Hipstory is a series of illustrations that recreate iconic figures and place them in a different time and culture, creating a new and altered portrait of them.
In Amit Shimoni world politicians and artists are transformed into hip city dwellers of the present. “I often find myself thinking about the differences between these world’s greatest leaders, their beliefs and motivations, and our self-centered generationS Shimoni describes. “The ‘Y’ generation is constantly looking at fashion and style as their way of self expression while steering away from the big ideologies. Hipstory wishes to reimagine the great leaders of modern history and place them in a different time and culture — ours.”
It all began with his final academy project in the visual communication department. The assignment was to create communication between a preferred art and its viewers, that’s when Hipstory was born, when Shimoni was looking for a way to connect his generation to history’s finest political and cultural leaders.
Among others, Barack Obama, Queen Elizabeth II, Angela Merkel, Abraham Lincoln, Dalai Lama, Martin Luther King, Ronald Reagan, Winston Churchill, Vladimir Putin and many more were transformed by Shimoni. Recently, icons from the art world have also been given an unusually modern wardrobe. The great hipstory creations by Frida Kahlo, Vincent Van Gogh, Salvador Dali, Andy Warhol and Pablo Picasso can all be admired right down here.
