Artists Pay Tribute to Legendary Filmmaker Hayao Miyazaki
Alina Chau

Hayao Miyazaki has long thrilled and inspired men and women everywhere with his unique and fantastical universe. Now, Spoke Art is hosting a three day popup art show in Los Angeles in a tribute to Studio Ghibli‘s co-founder, animator, and overall legendary filmmaker.

The three day event is a wonderful tribute in Miyazaki’s honor, in excess of a hundred artists from around the globe are showcasing pieces influenced by or relevant to him and his numerous works. They have applied painting, embroidery, and sculpture in their display of affection for him.

The pop-up exhibition, entitled Miyazaki in Los Angeles Art Show, features paintings of Hayao himself, as well as lovingly reworked posters for his best-loved films, including Ponyo, Princess Mononoke, My Neighbour Totoro and Spirited Away.

The opening night reception will begin Friday, August 17 from  5 pm to 10 pm, and will end on Sunday, August 19 from 10 am to 6 pm. Find out more about the free exhibition here. If you want to read a little more about Miyazaki’s life, give this a read 😉
