OMEGA’s New Limited Edition Model is an Ultraman-Inspired Timepiece

As a part of their “Speedy Tuesday” offering, Swiss watchmaker OMEGA has created a limited edition 42mm wristwatch inspired by the 1966 series Ultraman. This marks their second joint venture with Fratello Watches.

The original Ultraman Speedmaster was identical to a standard Speedmaster, aside from a unique orange center chronograph seconds hand. The model’s name is a result of its appearance on the TV show, “The Return Of Ultraman,” which aired in 1971 – Ultraman himself was a highly popular TV character who originally appeared in 1966-67.

The 42mm timepiece also has a vintage Omega logo, a black and orange anodized aluminum bezel, and matching NATO strap. A silhouette of Ultraman’s face on the 9 o’clock subdial can only be seen under the UV light emitted by the watch’s strap tool, which is shaped like the hero’s Beta Capsule and is joined in the special Monster Attack Team-inspired box by a spare black leather strap.

There’s a shout-out to vintage Speedmaster enthusiasts in general as well – the bezel features a dot positioned above the number 90, in tribute to the “dot over 90” bezel used on pre-1970 Speedmasters.

Limited to just 2,012 pieces, the OMEGA Speedmaster 42mm “Ultraman” can be reserved on OMEGA’s online store for $7,100.
