Botanic Bakery’s Beautifully Delicious Confectionary

Botanic Bakery is a place where the passion for nature, baking and art meet. Here is the home of self-taught Dutch confectionary artist Kristel van Valkenhoef. Prior to diving into the world of all things sweet, she travelled the globe as part of her modeling career.

Kristel van Valkenhoef’s piercing blue eyes may have assisted in locking down her spots on many fashion shows and photo shoots, however the Dutch model owes a lot of her success to her meddling older sister. “When I was 14, she sent pictures of me into some modeling competition,” van Valkenhoef says. She began modeling at the age of 16 and has worked with brands such as Céline, Dolce & Gabbana, Tom Browne, and Helmut Lang.

Currently, when she is not travelling the world due to her modelling career, van Valkenhoef is making delightful sugary treats. Her creations are gorgeous to look at. She makes lollipops with flowers embedded in them, decorated with delicate gold leaf. Another specialty of hers is candy that resembles slices of agate rock. Full with vibrant colors and depth, the candy looks just like the real thing. The Botanic Bakery has also some of the cutest cake pops on instagram. They look just like miniature Magnum ice creams, but wonderfully ornamented.

Nature and baking have forever been part of van Valkenhoef’s heart and soul and that is why she has passionately created her thriving Botanic Bakery. The bakery has produced custom made confectionary for Dom Perignon, Viktor & Rolf, Jill Stuart, Helmut Lang, Justin Alexander and Wilhelmina Models. So if you are ever in New York, go check it out!
