The Mysterious Wingless Aircraft that Outran a Fighter Jet

Both the New York Times and the Washington Post have recently reported on a secret UFO investigation unit inside the Pentagon which—like a real X-Files—studied inexplicable, possibly even otherworldly phenomena.

The Pentagon quietly ran a $22 million program to study unidentified flying objects from 2008 to 2012 at the behest of former Senator Harry Reid after considering numerous accounts of unexplained phenomena that could involve advanced technology developed by foreign governments or even aliens dropping in to spy on our little blue planet.

The Advanced Aerospace Threat Identification Program (AATIP) was reportedly shut down in 2012, but not before it investigated true and bizarre events, like the pair of Navy Airmen who encountered a high-speed object which shot out of the ocean and flew away.

Cmdr. David Fravor and another pilot Lt. Cmdr. Jim Slaight were flying their routine training mission over 100 miles out into the Pacific ocean. During the flight, a radio operator asked him to investigate a white floating object hovering over the sea. Fravor flew toward what he described as a 40-foot, oval-shaped object. According to Fravor in an interview with the New York Times, the objects appeared at 80,000 feet and then ‘hurtled’ toward the sea before stopping at 20,000 feet and hovering.

Then, Fravor recalled, the object (or objects) disappeared.

“It accelerated like nothing I’ve ever seen,” he told the Times, adding that he was “pretty weirded out,” and that although he had no idea what he saw, all he could tell was that “it had no plumes, wings or rotors and outran our F-18s.”

At a recent press conference, former Democratic staff director for the Senate Intelligence Committee Chris Mellon affirmed Fravor’s story. He further described the incident:

“It is white, oblong, some 40 feet long and perhaps 12 feet thick…The pilots are astonished to see the object suddenly reorient itself toward the approaching F/A-18,” Mellon said. “In a series of discreet tumbling maneuvers that seem to defy the laws of physics. The object takes a position directly behind the approaching F/A-18. The pilots capture gun camera footage and infrared imagery of the object. They are outmatched by a technology they’ve never seen.”

The Defense Dept. finally acknowledged AATIP existed on Saturday. There are frequently real-world reasons for unknown objects and strange events. Humanity doesn’t entirely understand Earth yet, let alone the vast reaches of outer space.
