Reuben Wu is a photographer, film-maker and music producer. In his visual work, he is driven not just by the urge to create imagery, but by a desire to explore new places as if they were unknown territory, constantly open to serendipity and with an eye for the unnoticed and the hidden. The “An Uncommon Place” series is a way to convey his sincere relationship with landscapes and artefacts, result of a perpetual research of unfamiliar places.
With his career as a producer — he co-founded the electro group Ladytron in 1999 — Wu has had the opportunity to travel the world, touring and producing their last five albums. But he also developed a passion for photography, inspired by his travels, where he made the most of exploring each country that he visited.
Wu chooses a color palette of pastel greens, pinks, yellows and blues that draw the viewer into a surreal place, one that reminds of an otherworldly, alien landscape. The compositions, many of them devoid of human life, describe mountainous cliffs and starry skies in a simple and straightforward manner, yet with an ethereal tone that reflects a hauntingly surreal sensibility.
Through his photographs, he tells the story of a dreamlike universe where nature dictates her law and shows some stunning natural phenomenons.
