Atlas of Beauty by Mihaela Noroc

Romanian photographer Noroc Mihaela is on a mission to photograph women from every single country on Earth in order to show that beauty is found everywhere. Her project is titled “The Atlas of Beauty.”

In 2013, 30-year-old photographer Mihaela Noroc quit her job in Romania to backpack around the world full time. Since then, she has visited every continent except for Antarctica and a total of about 50 countries, photographing hundreds of women along the way for her project.

“You can find it in Africa or in Europe, in a village or in a skyscraper, in a smile, in a gesture, in an intense gaze, in some wrinkles, or in a story,” she said. “Global trends make us look and behave the same, but we are all beautiful because we are different. In the end, beauty is in the eye of the beholder, and the beholder is always somebody else.”

She prefers to find and photograph natural faces of people who don’t use much makeup. Sometimes she only has 30 seconds to shoot a portrait, while other times she does hour-long sessions with subjects after getting in touch.

During her travels Noroc photographed more than 2,000 women, listened to their stories, and brought her project to life. Here’s just a small snapshot of the women you’ll find her book. You can find her book “Atlas of Beauty” right here on Amazon.

You can follow Noroc’s trip and view more work on her Facebook, Instagram and Tumblr accounts.
