With almost 40 years of history now in the books, it’s time for the Merc G-Wagen to get a substantial update. But before that happens, the German automaker is releasing a new, glossier, limited production run dubbed the G 65 Final Edition. Limited to just 65 units worldwide, the vehicle reflects the successful story of the world’s most powerful series production off-roader.
The G65 Final Edition is underscored by bronze 21-inch twin-spoke light-alloy rims. The visual presence is further enhanced by silver-painted brake calipers and black AMG Sport side decals, which are scarcely apparent because of the black paintwork. The under-ride guard, trim elements in the bumpers, wheels and exterior mirrors are all showcased in matte bronze, while the spare wheel cover takes on an obsidian black shade.
The Mercedes-AMG G 65 boasts a 6.0-liter V12 engine, harnessing 630 horsepower, and accelerating from 0 to 100 km/h in 5.3 seconds before topping out at 230 km/h. In addition to twin turbochargers, the ride then welcomes a multi-spark ignition with twelve twin-spark ignition units, on top of quite the convenient engine management system that ensures maximum efficiency as well as unmatched levels of refinement and power delivery.
Arguably the ultimate expression of the world’s most powerful series production off-roader, the G65 Final Edition takes its mojo from the M279 AMG, which is also found in Maybach’s S650 Cabriolet and G650 Landaulet.
The exclusive interior package is captivated by nappa leather with seat side bolsters in carbon fiber and topstitching in light brown. Decorative stitching in bronze then plays further complement to the carbon fiber trim, as the driver sits behind an AMG Performance steering wheel in black nappa leather.
The Mercedes-AMG G 65 Final Edition is available starting at roughly $365,600 USD.
