Late last year, model Bella Hadid signed on to Nike as an official spokesperson for the brand. Now Nike rolled out its first big campaign featuring Hadid, a celebration of the Cortez, a classic running silhouette that’s celebrating its 45th anniversary.
The 20-year-old beauty appears in a photoshoot spotlighting its classic ‘Cortez’ style. Famously worn by Farrah Fawcett in a behind the scenes image from ‘Charlie’s Angels’ in the 1970’s. In the shoot, Hadid is photographed in an array of nostalgic outfits representing all the important trends the Cortez was around for over the past four decades, from ’70s flared jeans to ’80s tracksuits to ’90s slip-dresses.
Though the Cortez’ initial success was very much tied to its purpose as a running shoe, it was quickly embraced by pop culture. In honor of its birthday, the sportswear brand is bringing back the Cortez with an exclusive women’s collection featuring 3 iconic original colorways. The effortless California-inspired style comes in the original White/Varsity Royal-Varsity Red colorway made famous in Forrest Gump, an “Oregon” staple featuring green and yellow, and a timeless Black/White. All 3 options will be available June 1st for $90.
