Artist Felix Semper makes amazing things out of paper. His latest work is a bust of rapper Notorious B.I.G. that can be manipulated in some highly unusual ways.
Like the similar artworks of Li Hongbo, this Biggie consists of many layers of paper that can be stretched out like an accordion. By carefully layering intricately carved stacks of paper, semper has immortalized the late Brooklyn rapper the notorious B.I.G. as a “stretchable sculpture”, where a seemingly solid bust becomes a fluidly moving object. Properly outfitted with a crown, the sculpture then acts as a giant slinky of sorts, stretching from head to neck and back again.
The artwork is called “Big Poppa” and since Felix Semper doesn’t show his works in some gallery or museum but rather in the streets of New York, you should go and have a look if you’re in the area. “I like to take my sculptures from the art galleries to the public so the average person that normally does not go to an art gallery can be introduced to art,” Semper says.
