Pop Culture Icons Fuse with Van Gogh’s ‘Starry Night’

You may be familiar with Vincent van Gogh’s famous painting “The Starry Night” and it’s particular style. New York-based painter Aja Trier fuses famous pop culture characters with Van Gogh’s legendary ‘The Starry Night’ painting to create truly unique works of art.

Everything started when an education blog mistakenly shared Aja’s painting of the Eiffel Tower as Van Gogh’s. However, the Eiffel Tower was completed in 1889 and Van Gogh died in 1890, having spent his last years in the south of France, so it’s very unlikely that he even saw the iconic tower. The artist made light of the error and asked herself, what else did van Gogh not see?

Thus her ‘Starry Night’ collection was born. The series stars popular pop culture personalities including ‘Totoro’, ‘No-Face’ from Spirited Away, ‘Snoopy’, ‘Stewie’ from Family Guy, and more.

You can find Trier’s work below as well as on her website, Instagram, and Etsy pages.
